I been a few times and quite like it,the climb up the hill for the skeet is a killer, the sporting targets never change but there is a good selection, all done on an honesty system, you pay for whatever you intend to shoot and off you go.I heard a rumor they had got a tower but not been this year so cant comment.Great view but if its windy or wet its not a lot of fun.

I've been down there a handful of times.

The ground is a bit rough n ready and is located on a bit of moorland hillside which is quite exposed so, it's usually worth taking a coat n gloves.

There's a reasonable selection of sporting traps set into the hillside, a couple of skeeet layouts, trap, and compact sporting.

There's no delay on the traps so, the Boar is not the best place to visit if you're heading out for some solo practice.

Christian, the chap that owns the Boar always treats us well and serves decent bacon butties.

Whenever I've been there the other shooters have been friendly/down to earth.

Not sure what his clay prices are at the moment but, sometime between my last two visits he must have put his prices up because the session left a right old dent in my wallet.

If you're visiting during the week you'll need to call ahead in advance as they usually open up based on demand outside the weekends.

Its only 20 mins away from me and as I have just returned to shooting after a 5 yr break its the only place I intend going at the moment , son/brother goes every other week and the hill/location doesn"t bother us , when I have been early doors on a Sun there seems to be the same friendly crowd , very relaxed atmosphere .

If you are going in the week please ring the day afore as mentioned above , we went yest morn at 9.45am and it was shut ( I did say to brother have you rung him ) , Christian is a very friendly chap and stopped open the other week to accomodate son as he went after work.

Clay prices £7.50 for 25 .

Targets dont change but several are very testing .

Agree about not going solo as you need someone to operate remotes for you , I often go as a non shooter and enjoy watching/coaching sons/brother .

I just popped over this afternoon for a quick blast and it looks like Christian and his gang of helpers have been busy. There's a new clubhouse, complete with leather sofa/chairs and, a dining table/chairs. They've also just opened an air gun range with various targets going out to about 45 yards, various firing positions... charging £5 per hour for use of the range.

Went this morn and operated remotes for son and back home by 10am , glorious sunshine , bit busier than normal spose with the weather and looked like a large group doing an introduction to clays , car park filling up as we left at 9.45am.

I would agree that the boar is a good shoot to visit BUT we all like a change of targets and with a ground that the traps live out all year it does not take much effort to say change one or two stands a week to keep the targets fresh, Then 8 to 10 new stands a month !!!
