crow and pigeon decoying

Recommended Posts

I live in cumbria and have been decoying for a couple of years now. From what i read in various shooting mags the rest of the country seem to shoot alot bigger bags than we do up here be it corvids or woodys. My best bag to date on crows is 56 and pigeons 46.Does any1 else find this to be the case? Carl

i have shot in cumbria, a few times grouse, and pheasant shooting, you notice that most of the terrain is hilly with mainly pasture and grazing land, cereal crops and arable land were hard to find, so it isn,t really good for pigeons, but as you say the crows are all over the place

I was fairly happy with a bag of 46 but as you say the crows always seem to tip the scales for me. I shot the pigeons last august on a barley stubble in north west cumbria. Thanks for the reply fella

Youre shooting to control pests and stop crop predation under the terms of the General Licence..not to accumulate big bags of birds. No birds + no problem = Happy farmer

If all that concerns you is just shooting numbers then either move to Portugal or Argentina

I would be more than happy with half that number

The majority of pigeons in this country are located in East Anglia and up into Lincolnshire . This is because of the arable farming that is the main stay of the farmers crops in these areas . The Arable farming in these counties make it easier for the pigeons to get a belly full of grub two or three times a day .

I under stand what your saying mike, but what im saying is ther is plenty of pigeons around my area, but decoying them doesnt seem to work aswell as other places down country. the numbers i see scoffing the farmers crop range from 1 to a few 100. Im a responsible shooter who is dedicated to controlling the vermin on my ground. And like alot of us i enjoy a days sport.
