Amazed
Hi all I have ended up with a box of marksman pallets in with a deal and I must say after a bit of a clean and some oil they arnt half bad not brill by today's standards of pellet but usable. Si this got me wondering if anyone else had been suprised by some older or snubbed pellets had performed better than expected ? Thanks Karl. Rimfireboy
I've still got some in .177. I used to use them all the time as a kid. Shot loads of rabbits, rats, magpies and pigeons with them. There were only those and beatall's that were stocked in our village shop back then.
NIGHT SEARCHER
I have used thousands of the pointed ones they are very good for close range Ratting . They are a very soft lead so spread easy on impact . They are cheap and nasty and tend to oxidise so i wash them and a few drops of oil on them . I have a couple of rifles that the barrels seam to like them a Cometa 300 and 400 2p groups at 35yds from a cheap springer and cheap pellets . I do have seven PCPs and i use Crosman premier hollow points or RWS superdome or the new RWS superfields for long range shooting the superfields are doing 5p groups at 40 yds . I do have a Hatsan in .25 cal that i got for Ratting and theres not much choice in .25 cal pellets so i got Marksman 22 grain and they are very good out to 25yds but the bonus is they hit like a sledge hammer absolutely stunning on Rats . demonwolf444
Had some marksman domed .177 which i found in the bottom of a drawer, used them in my XS78 and they seemed fine, could hit shotgun carts with them at 40 yards every time, ( although i only fired at 6 ) and yeh they do spread very easily, when i fire them at the spinners they push them round fine, but they are completely flat like a lead disc after. When i was younger they were all i used to use, and they accounted for allot of pigeons. I took two pigeons and a rabbit with them recently, They arnt amazing but they will certainly do the job, if memory serves thay are 7.9 grains..which is pretty standard wieght for a .177 Recently did a barrel recrown job for a builder who is working for us, he couldnt understand why it was shooting 2 meters to the left ( yes 2m..) i removed the "silencer" and found about 400 pellets and loads of silencer clippings, i knew straight away it was the crown, and sure enough it was literally like half the barrel was blocked... -.- recrown job later got sub inch groups at 30 yards with the pellets he game me to use - smk spitfires ? i think thats what they are called, so they seemed alright.
