it might be well done if we get the real problem critter tonight, its been fed the bodies from the last event outside the pens as we haven't been able to get there and I gather it liked a rather large dead turkey so hopefully we get it tonight. Very strange there to have one as lampshy as the one we think we saw but it will get the full on stealth only NV approach tonight. I'm almost hoping we only shoot one but have a feeling you may see another post with a load of foxes on.

Well with one thing and another we didn't manage to get back for the last "1" till last night after Gary having another call from the owner of the place in tears as the fox had done yet another pen. Well we asked her to leave one of the dead in front of the pens as bait so drove in that way and looked for it and no sign which wasn't the best start, so drove up to our vantage spot to set up aiming to just use NV and no calling in case we did have a lamp shy one on our hands. Wind was awful blowing reasonably strongly straight towards the pens but you can't sit anywhere else and see properly and shoot safely. Within 20 minutes I clocked one coming in from our left so rapidly got the archer back on the rifle, by which time it had winded us turned round and well a quick squeak from Gary and the moment it stopped to look it got a 75grn vmax. The bonus this time was he had a set of nv goggles so its not quite such a poor spectator sport and he could squeak and see the foxes reaction. After that we hoped the job was done but opened a beer and sat out to check for more and it was under half an hour when from the same spot a much more wary fox came in that got no squeaking and the vmax treatment as it looked set to run all the time. So we gave it a bit longer and within an hour had one come in from 2 fields over hunting 150 yards plus out in grass, a bit of squeaking and it didn't want to know so it got shot where it was one of my furthest under NV so far at over 150 yards and a cracking sized dog fox. With that time was getting on so we hope we don't get another call too soon....... so thats 6 in a week at this time of year from one 15 acre holding. One thing is for sure the archer is really earning its keep there as you get much more time and foxes that don't just run on you.

Indeed its devastating when you know where they are going to be. This is great as you have 3 sides you can see them coming from and with the nv I can spot easily to 250 yards and shoot well 150 is a fair way with nv but its all the range you really need, the biggest issue is having any idea how far they actually are as its pretty deceptive in the scope. Having said that some of these close ones are a bit like shooting fish in a barrel shall we say. Not exactly stretching the .243 much :whistling: and not quite the entertainment of lamping but needs must these are/were being a pain in the backside. We are still dreading the idea we may still not have the proper culprit but all you can do is keep shooting them
