Bleeh
Christ it's been a slow year. First the rape has been slow shooting all winter, then it starts getting hammered but the rain comes, and with all this rain the pea's didn't get drilled till last week!. So I give the farmer a ring to try and find out what's happening, and he gives me the most vague instructions on trying to find 3 fields of drill in the middle of deepest darkest suffolk - and I found it! I went the wrong way but I managed to spy what looked like drill about a mile off, and sure enough it was the right place. It looks like I might finally get to do some shooting this year. Whitebridges
Good news Bleeh, we look forward to hearing about your results with eager anticipation.
Bleeh
Had a look around today. The pea's are just, just, starting to show little spouts of green in a field of brown, so nothing's taking much interest yet. I'm going to let it cool down, let them grow a tiny bit more and set up at the end of the week, I don't expect much as this point but It'll let me get to know the area. When I looked today I saw about 11 Rock doves, so I better be careful
Whitebridges
Or do you maybe mean Stock Doves?

Whitebridges
They're the ones, loads about this year Bleeh. I've got a few acres of peas and not one hint of a pigeon on them yet. I suppose this is good news?
Bleeh
They're the ones, loads about this year Bleeh. I've got a few acres of peas and not one hint of a pigeon on them yet. I suppose this is good news? Well, using the age old excuse of 'A bad day on the field is better than the best day in the office' I went and set up on the peas. Seeing how I did, I can either lie about how long I was out there for, or I could lie about how many I shot, either way it wasn't very productive. But, the pigeon numbers don't seem to be very high at the moment, I hardly saw much movement anywhere near the peas so I think they are yet to be 'discovered' properly, but the nice thing today is that it gave me a good chance to see what flight lines do exist, and I might give it another go early next week, and we'll see how that goes on. Also as an added bonus, the farmer that said he didn't want anyone shooting his drilling has about 300 pigeons on it. hahaha. I take it you'll only have another go if you've seen plenty of pigeons feeding and not just setting up in hope.

Yeah, there feeding, and flighting from tree to tree, hoping down, etc, not massive numbers but if left undisturbed they'll make several 50+ flocks over a few hours. The real issue is that it's about 140 acres of peas, so you'll always have a bit of an issue convincing them that this patch of peas is better than that patch a few hundred meters down the field, hence why the first day was a bit of 'meh' experience. Oh well, I'll do some recon tomorrow and maybe go out Monday.
