davhope
Just to be a pest again, is it worth getting a rifle with varmint barrel or is the extra weight not worth the tradeoff? Cheers Dave
mry716
The heavier the barrel, the more metal there is and the more it can absorb heat. it is also more rigid. The need for heat dissipation is required if you are firing a lot of shots quickly to save barrel distortion and shot stringing but for your use the lighter the rifle the easier it will be to carry for long distances and even a real light rifle will give 2-5 shots without a problem. I favour lightweight and my Steyr with 5-15 Zeiss scope and a round in the chamber is still less than 7lbs. It will shoot three shots as quick as I can aim and my zero doesn't move.
