Imperfection
I think this stock is made from an old piece of pallet or something Hey,its Russian so is either someones wooden leg or made from recycled lollypop sticks. If you're not happy with the grain try staining it darker to conceal it.The teeth marks from when it had an 'Fab' lolly ontop are purely optional. Daveo26
There was no stain on it, just very scratched and chipped varnish That dark gloopy varnish they put on is a stain, If it was clear varnish the stock wouldnt have changed colour when you stripped the finish off you have to remove loads of wood to sand the stain out, Its possible to bleech the stock with houshold bleech. I cover them in bleech then wrap it in a bin bag to stop it drying out. It lifts the stain out no problem, Then stain the stock a pleasing tone to highligh the grain that is there, then oil it. I suspect those odd markings on the wood are reminients of the old finish. Iv done exactly the same as you on a webley vulcan stock it looked just the same as yours. Then I was told about the bleech method after i had finished it I dont mean to come across as a know it all toss bag I only know because i did the self same thing a few times
WelshLamb
Well here's the finished article! Looking quite a bit better than it did to start with . The wood isn't as dark as I'd have liked, but I think this makes it look 'different' so I'm still quite pleased with it!
RED BEARD
looks rate'enough to me duck .don't beat yourself up about the stock finish, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's tab! but you've still got a nice finish from it
