Goose Shooting, Montrose Basin.

Hello All,

A freind and I are looking to go to Scotland to shoot Geese on the Montrose Basin.

We have requested the application forms from Angus Council, and are awaiting their return.

We have to request dates, obviously we would like to go when we have the best chance of bagging a few, we are thinking December sometime. If any of you have been around this date, would you recommend going at this time?

If any of you have been, did you have trouble getting the requested dates? Is it somewhere we would possibly need to book a guide for?

Thanks,

Rhodri

Hi

Ive not been myself, but i know a few chaps who go on the foreshore and inland shooting as well.

from what i can gather the geese come in early season and build on the October Moon, i think you need

the right tides to get under them on the basin and i dont think you can stay out long its a rule.

Like everything else if they get a late harvest like last year geese wont hang around long before

they go looking for food.

And if you get the hard weather like the other winters im sure they will be on the Solway like they did!

i would not rule out December im sure geese will be around and probably not as many shooters, it makes it

better if you can get inside information off somebody who lives near.

I had a look at the permit scheme last year but do not know the full picture, hope this helps for starters

im sure somebody else will come in and know a bit more.

Rgds Rob.

I was due to stay, with the family, in a holiday cottage between Montrose and Arbroath at Lunan bay last week but the owner cancelled. The purpose of the visit was a family holiday but also to "check out" the Montrose basin for the forthcoming season.

Ah well never mind perhaps another year.
