Stick Question

Recommended Posts

I do not want to high jack Henrys thread so posting this question anew.

We have a product over here called soft tie. What it is , is a thin piece of wire covered with flexible rubber. The whole thing is about 1/4 inch in diameter.

Do you think that the same twist effect of honey suckle could be produced by wrapping this product around a branch?

If it was wrapped around in January or Febuary and left for a growing season would that be long enough?

Has anyone tried this?

:stupid: Some of the beaters spot possible sticks when in the line and wrap a thick gauge wire around them. Like HD says it takes a few weeks ;)

I've seen them done with plastic coated garden wire and even baler twine - but they do take at least two years before a reasonable twisty pattern is produced. You need to start with a stick about 3/4 of an inch thick - any thicker and it will be very thick and heavy by the time it's ready.

I find a dozen or so naturals each year - made by honeysuckle - but they're not really popular with the general puplic so I don't sell many.

One more point - honeysuckle only ever grows round one way - clockwise when viewed from above - so if you're going to 'fake' them, make sure you get it right or they become obvious to anyone who knows!
