rabbiter
when i first started using longnets,i studied the land they would be used on,what would be best suited,so eventually i started off with 6 20 yard stop nets and 2 50 yarders, then a few 10 yard stop nets, then learned to make my own,now i have nets to cover every eventuality, better that way as a few well placed stop nets are better than say one hundred yarder,i now use both traditional and quickset,as most of the land i work is quite undulating, perfect for short stop nets,ie through hedges, across gateways etc, flatter ground i use quickset,of all lengths, hope this helps mate...DAZ

rabbiter
some of my purse nets are bright yellow mate, and i catch 100"s of rabbits in them,
rabbiter
shorter stop nets (traditional)are easier to handle too, theres a hell of a lot of weight in a 6z 100 yard traditional when youre pulling it back on to your end pins mate... steve0146
Some places you can only use long nets over purse nets, like some areas of bramble etc. Smaller ones are best in my opinion. They can be joined together to make a longer net, used individually as stop nets through hedges etc. They are also far easier to manage. Thinner the net, the more prone they seem to tangle. Also remember if you buy a 20 yard net, there needs to be a lot more than 20 yard of netting on it to allow for bagging or kill. No matter what length or thickness of net, if there is not enough bag in it, the bunnies will bounce off. This is based on ferreting and not long netting at night. Bigbob
Get a 25 yarder then get down the park and set it ,lift it, set it,lift it ,theres nothing hard or magical about them with just a bit of practice you will soon become handy with them
The Essex Hunter
thinking of getting a long net for this years ferreting not used one before and would appreciate any advise on what one to get would be great, any makes to avoid thanks colin We have around 700 yards between us, all the fixed pole system, mainly 6oz net. I still use 22mm wood dowel on my nets, as the pointed end is a lot longer allowing it to go in further into soft ground. Over the years we have added a few stop nets with a lead bottom cord and 2 nets we had made for very deep ditches they have a lead bottom cord and 2 other cords like standard nets. Chris has his nets in 25 yds lengths and Carl’s are in 50’s, the 25 yd ones can be turned easier so they get used when we are weaving through trees etc. We have plenty of spare poles as well because the fixed pole system can leave with a bit to much slack some times when going over a shallow ditch etc. http://s856.photobucket.com/albums/ab130/TheEssexHunter/Essex%20Ferrerting/?action=view¤t=STA60585.jpg TEH

rabbiter
this is another example of the shorter nets in action, this large warren was surrounded then criss crossed with nets no longer than 25 yards mate... DAZ
