Pajero v Shogun

Thinking about getting something more suitable for this season, but can not decide on a SWB or LWB at present although I think the LWB may be more practical with the kids (as wife will drive it when im not around) and the dogs etc.

I dont do any off road stuff, but to be honest the company car gets stuck when it is on wet grass and i am looking at something to get me down some muddy tracks for wildfowling this season.

I have been looking at the Pajeros but what are the differences between these and the Shoguns and what are the shogun sports like in comparison.

Any models or particular year to avoid or are there things to look out for etc

Cheers

Worth asking this lot http://www.pocuk.com/forums/ as they are a fountain of knowledge and always ready to help.

Shoguns (UK) and Pajeros (import) are essentially the same. Some of the trim and colour is different. Also depends on what year you are after for known faults. All vehicles from every country have typical faults but tell the pocuk forum what you are after and they'll tell you what to look out for.

Two things to watch.

1. Imports are typically harder / more expensive to insure.

2. Bits (from dealers) for imports can be more expensive even though they are the same as UK models.

As said above they are pretty much the same vehicle, but...Pajeros are generally higher specced.

Not mechanically, they all run the same units, although variants like the Fieldmaster are more powerfully tuned. The differences tend to be more in accessories and interior spec. Mine has Recaro seats for example as well as air con, electric folding mirrors and a few other bits and bobs.

Insurance is an issue in as much that you need to find specialist insurers for imports, but there are several and to be honest, I don't think that it really cost me anymore than it would to insure a Shogun. With regard to spares, never had an issue with buying Shogun parts and them not fitting.

I'm selling my SWB (See 'other sales' :innocent: ) as I just don't have enough shooting to justify it, but if I was going to buy another I'd get the Pajero again.

The main difference is most shoguns are wall to wall rust when you have a look under them, where as a recently imported pajero of the same age will be like new under there. This of course means apply lashings of underseal when you get it and you can avoid what comes with every landrover everytime the mot is due ie "lot's of welding".

They don't cost any more to insure, run or for parts and they generaly have a better spec.

Runing a SWB PAJERO.( IMPORT)

N registered, and chasis as good as new, 2.8 auto and no problem appart from thirst, but running on wvo 90% plus 10% petrol it runs well.

Had it 3 years and appart from pump seal,(a home fix) and a new starter,( the original lasted 16 years), its a pleasure to drive having been a Landy fan for 30 years, its warm comfortable and came with all the gimmicks.

Get a pre 96 and it will run on wvo all day in the right weather, then 50/50 for winter, cheap as chips and thats what the wvo has probably had in it.

Got myself a LWB i was thinking about undersealing it as some point..thanks

Do NOT Underseal  Waxoil is what u need :good:

Underseal holds moisture and can cause rust, I used to be in the body repairs game and where underseal was used also rust was sandwiched in.

Yeah, should have added that they run well on waste veg oil. You buy it from ebay (60p a litre-ish,) or better still source it locally for much less, heat it to drive the water off, filter it to 1 micron (filters on ebay for less than a tenner) and chuck it straight in the tank in the summer, I used to cut it with 30% diesel in winter, no problems, but I do live on the south coast!
