-Mongrel-
I've just discovered that my 2 3/4" chambered semi auto also had a 3" chamber option, I am now on the hunt! However I've had another thought. Is it possible and safe to potentially bore out the chambers by another 1/4" to take it up to 3". Obviously it's a gunsmiths job, but in theory can it be done? bedwards1966
Yes the barrel can be done, however it will need to be proofed afterwards. Also, if the barrel is chrome lined then part of that lining will come off where it's reamed out - not the biggest issue in the world, but something to consider. This is assuming that the receiver and action are long enough to feed and eject the longer carts? One would think so if it had the option of a longer chamber, but I'd want to be sure that it's only the barrel that's different before paying a gunsmith and the proof house to alter it. -Mongrel-
It's a Beretta 301 for which you could (sadly no more) buy a 'upgraded' barrel. I have hunted but cannot find any further information to verify one way or the other. Can anyone suggets a decent working gunsmith who could do this in the Sussex area? It's got to be worth a call if just to ask the question.

HDAV
Best to phone not email as I know they have struggled with email issues! Guns they know, computers they don't!

-Mongrel-
Ok, to continue. Spoke with Dennis (nice chap) who advises that the barrel can be bored to take a 3" cart, it will need reproofing for which the responsibility falls on me should it fail. ie, if it fails it's not UK gun repairs fault or problem. Cost all in will be circa £200. So, now I have a dilemma. I use it for wildfowling and as such it gets used with steel shot in accordance with guidelines. What I'm trying to decide is this. Am I better off sticking with the gun I know and love, or, should I bite the proverbial bullet, stop faffing about and trade it in for a steel proofed, 3.5" chambered semi auto made by a well known and castigated turkish manufacturer? I am not in a position to buy another newer Beretta auto and TBH the Hatsan is just about all I can afford at the moment. The other thing weighing on my mind is that while UK guns will carry the work out on the barrel, they won't take responsibility if it fails proofing as a result. Net result being that I'll have a bill for works and no barrel at the end of it. Dennis did say it was unlikely to fail, but... HDAV
Tough one worth perhaps trying a hatstand to see how it feels and shoots? Then get the 301 bored out and be happy
