Spook
Hi! I have just been given the go ahead by my local FLO to shoot 27 acres of fields. Great News!! but the land has rights of way and a foot path on one side and it backs onto houses! Any how I'm now thinking perhaps I would be better of useing a high powered air rifle so as to avoide richochet (How the hell do you spell that?? ) is .22 RF too much? Can I use or can you get a round that give me a bit more power than an air rifle but not throw 40grns of lead accross a field should I miss? Thanks in advance for your help. Axe
As long as you have have good backstops and take into concideration your position i.e. elevation etc. the rest is common sense. Don't shoot towards houses, roads or footpaths and you will be safe. There are different rounds available for the .22LR like longs however I would think an FAC airifle would be better. reefman
I echo what axe says,as long as you are disciplined and choose your backstops you will have no problems. I use winchester hp subs in my rf and rate them. You could alays try using a high seat if you need elevation.
invector
Spook, You could try CCI CB Long .22 cartridges. 29 Grains. Muzzle velocity 727 fps (667 fps @ 50 yards, and 610 fps @ 100 yards.) Muzzle energy 33 ft lb (28 ft lb @ 50 yards and 24 ft lb @ 100 yards)
A Sick Old Man
I use those CB Caps to do rabbits in a farmers garden, they are good to thirty meters. But they do bounce but no where near as bad as subs, if you are worried about your land re safety go for a .17 or an air rifle. .17 is bloody noisey though,
Spook
Noise is an issue! Horsey types and all! what sort of angle does it take to stop 'bouncing?' and how do rabbits know what makes a bad back stop? How quiet would my .410 be with a moderator?? Dave-G
You would almost certainly get it cleared for FAC air - but .22lr is iffy unless it's very hilly or has stone hedging for example as backstops to catch bullets. I have recently acquired an fac air rifle and am very impressed with it. It's no substitute for a rimmie, particularly when windy, but it's so much safer, yet so much better than 12ftlb air. What part of cornwall is Parbados in please - I never 'eard of thaat my ansum
Spook
Hi! The land is allready cleared for .22RF. But I'm thinking about safety and not wanting to have a mishap or loose my FAC, I also shoot .223 and indoor target (25yrds prone). Back to .410, how quiet can we make them?? PS Parbados is my little bit of Pasty land!!
