Tail light rules- clear bulbs or non OEM lights

hi guys,

i had my first run in in the new car (or in any car for that matter over the past 10+ years). I backed into a steel I beam that was sticking out of the ground and busted up my rear fender and tail light assembly. An OEM replacement is a bit expensive (I'm searching the breaker yards now). However I've found a set of lights that would work just fine. I can get a pair for less than a single. The problem is that there is no amber in the assembly. it is clear or red. Is that legal here or would that fail an MOT? Is the amber a mandatory requirement?

Thanks

Rick

Yes years ago mine was the same. Failed an MOT when the amber paint flaked off but replaced and passed. Just tell your insurance company as it is a modification. Mine questioned me when I made a non fault claim after the loss adjuster visited the car. I did think they might try to claim my policy void but thankfully they didn't.
