Pigeons in the rain

Recommended Posts

Hi all, after a pretty wet day today I decided to pop out and have a walk around one of my permissions I have. No sooner had I pulled up the heavens opened again and down came the rain. After walking for about 5 minutes the rain eased off and was now quite a fine and drizzling type of rain. Now I'm quite new to pigeon shooting and have been told that pigeons don't fly or feed in the rain. However as I walked around a barn in one of the fields there were 75 ish pigeons all feeding and looked as if they had been there some time. This proved the same on the other fields as I walked, they were flying, landing and feeding in the rain. Does anyone know what's going on or has anyone had the same? Thanks, Matt

There are exceptions, ( I once shot a huge bag on drilled peas in horizontal rain) but on the whole rain stops play. The good thing is that if you can sit it out the action can often be fast and furious straight after, this all depends of course on you being in the right spot.
