steve0146
I have not shot widgeon on September before as they dont normally arrive till later. However, there were a few around this morning and managed a brace.

ayano3
Well done. We have quite a few widgeon on our marsh which is unusual for this time of year !! Is this a sign of a harder winter or seasonal changes. ??

Yoggy
Steve, what a lovely photo mate. That would looked great framed!. I haven`t seen any Widgeon round these parts yet, although a few lads have said they`ve heard the odd one on the tidal river. Dee Wildfowler
Most migratory ducks are arriving later and later. In the 60s and 70s we always had thousands of Pintail and Wigeon before the end of September, with another influx during the October moon and a final flourish in November. I've shot into double figures on Pintail and Wigeon on 1st September on several occasions but its all different now. We've got several thousand Pintail here now but very few Wigeon, last season the Wigeon didn't arrive in good numbers until late November. I guess it's a combination of climate change giving warmer winters, and increased numbers of refuge areas in Europe that's keeping the ducks in Europe for longer before they head West.
