scimitar
I'm going to start making my own bio diesel as I'm struggling to keep up with fuel costs. Problem is I can only make enough for 50% of my fuel requirements. My terrano is 1997 model swb, should it run okay on a mixture of diesel/bio. Would a 50/50 mix be okay or should the mix be more diesel, less bio. Thanx for any advice.
ferguson_tom
The terrano will easily cope with 100% biodiesel so running it 50/50 will be fine. Just have in stock some fuel filters for the first few thousand miles as the bio works as a detergent and cleans your fuel system out when you first use it. Is it time or the oil you havent got? if its the oil you can get it from ebay for about 60p a ltr part filtered so still works out a lot cheaper than normal fuel. neil3728
One think to watch when running oil is the weather as oil will freeze a lot easier than diesel. Running a mix of 50:50 might be okay through the winter depends on how cold it get where you are.

By sound of it he is making biodiesel and not running straight veg oil which you have more of a problem with. Jesse James
My Mits Pajero failed its MOT last week on Emissions only... (2.8TDI) SWB. The usual issues, Sluggish pull away, black cloud of smoke every time I touched the peddle.... after going to Mits owners club and asking they all said the same thing... throw in some Veg Oil. 12 ltrs later of Veg Oil, one bottle of Injector cleaner and now have a MOT, and it runs like a dream. no smoke what so ever and also seems to be great on "Fuel" and lots of power. Going to Tesco's to fill up later... Veg Oil of course, and £5 worth of diesel. I don't see any real evidenace saying that Veg oil will or will not damage the engine, only about changing the Oil filter after 6 months... the cost of Veg Oil in bulk to Diesel... well there you go. will run till its broke...
