Daany
Hi all, I no its probly been coverd a number of times, but if a gun is not steel proof could you put steels in it, a few people have said you can shoot steel through no more than half choke in a gun that's not proofed
poontang
Shot size 4 and smaller, through no tighter than 1/2 choke and you should be ok (according to Gamebore). http://www.gamebore.com/products/33/12g-game-wetland-steel Edited October 2, 2012 by poontang

I've shot a few 32gram of 4 through mine this season!
Will 1994
so if your gun isnt steel proofed you can still shot steel through it
kent
so if your gun isnt steel proofed you can still shot steel through it its a complex question with liabilities, i do as long as the gun is sound and its not got more than 1/2 choke. steel comes in std and high pressure variants, the std advice is no proof dont shoot the high pressure stuff. that said i do, but i wouldn't put lead through some of the guns i have seen for sale secondhand. Steel shot BTW can damage any barrel even steel proofed ones if it leaves the shotcup in the barrel
Will 1994
so it would be ok with 1/4 and 1/2 ?
kent
so it would be ok with 1/4 and 1/2 ? Yes as the maximum restiction is 1/2. If its a real nice or expensive gun think twice, like i say even steel proof is not imune from damage to the bore if steel ever makes contact
