Franchi Harrier
So, tomorrow I have my first ever inspection. I'm all installed using the right stuff but don't quite know what to expect. Obviously she will check the cabinet, it's area installed and security inside the house. Anyone able to suggest what questions to expect? Best regards, Matt

lees
Plenty of 'what would you do if' questions, how far does shot go? what if a shot and injured bird falls onto someone else's land? what do you do if a cartridge doesn't fire? were some of the questions I was asked. kiffy
my feo was brilliant, he was only here ten minutes or so. he asked me a few simple questions like have i any experience and what do i want a shotgun for. he then went up and checked my gun safe, only a quick nose he opened the door counted the bolts and closed it, i thought he would have gripped it and given it a shake at least. the nback downstairs and a few more questions about house security. i had a new alarm system, cctv and about a dozen lights outside a lot of them on sensors. he also asked if i did this for the guns, i truthfully said no. security is peace of mind and sensor lights wher due to my using a bike for work and the sensors made it eassier to get to my workshop when i put it away. i was bricking it before he came but honestly it was lovely, no hard questions or sneeky questions just plain simple stuff so dont worry
BerettaSV10
As the others have said relax and have the tea and biscuits ready. He probally will check your house security, like windows and doors. Check your cab out. Probally ask about gun safety, what experiance you have had if any, like grounds you use or lessons that you have had. If you have declared any thing on your application will go through that, it my case took a while to do that bit (medical reasons we me). Its a chat mainly to see what you are like in person, as from paper they can do all the checks, but don't have a clue what you are like in person. Franchi Harrier
Well that was done and dusted after an hour and 20 mins. Seemed she was lovely but had to grill me over minor issues from when I was a bit naughty as a young lad. Amongst this was the issue of the previous burglary on my property in 2009 and one previous attempt 5 years before that. It may prove positive but sounds like she prefers additional security eg a metal gate behind the solid wooden cupboard door where the cabinet is stored. Anyway, left me feeling like a convicted criminal and have to await their response. Feeling negative but hey! They do their job and I'm sure they do their job very well. Fingers crossed. HDAV
Hmmm there is a reason the cabinet has to be to a BS standard and out of sight to stop opportunist burglars! 1hour 20? What force ? Mine was more like 20 min! Certainly less than an hour! Home security is part of the process but as long as you have decent doors and windows with locks it should be fine. Franchi Harrier
The cabinet is stored upstairs in a cupboard bolted to brick wall using adequate bolts but with the history of intruders and dwellings it seems she (the FAO) would prefer more security to make it safer. She was toying over a metal backing to the door or even a steel gate behind the wooden door. She anyhow suggested she discusses this with someone back at the office and will advise soon. I've already alarm, changed window entered through to small openings to prevent access and patio doors are laminated glass. May have to look at custom made if a readily made gate isn't available. lumpy
Dont panic she cannot force you to add a metal gate she can only recomend, we used to have a female FEO in se kent she was as mad as a box of frog's as well !
HDAV
Sounds like overkill perhaps she has seen one too many home RFD's if the cupboard is brick and you add a steel door and plates to ceiling and floor you have a strong room !!!!!! kiffy
although i have half decent security nothing is unbeatable so my safe placement is as important as anyone elses.... but its in a spare bedroom in clear view of the window and outside the window is a very strong pergolla that would be thieves could stand on.. my feo didnt have any worries at all about my placement. did your feo give you an indication as to wether thewy would reccomend you get a certificate? mine didnt and couldnt say yes on the spot but did say they where reccomending i recieve one
BerettaSV10
My visit lasted around an hour, mainly checking through the medical history, had the garage turned over a good few years ago, which did not seam to matter. Asked about the alarm if it was a dummy one or working one and was happy at the answer. does seam over kill about the extra securiy. Mine was well happy with the cabinate as went for a brattonsound one with the shooting bolts to lock it with just one central key to lock it. Franchi Harrier
She didn't give any indication if it was looking positive or not being honest. She just gave the impression that because I was honest and reported to the police about previous thefts on car and all that that I was a high risk! Seemed to greatly indulge into if it was possible to safe keep the shotgun at another address or under someone else's licence. I did tell her the obvious that I couldn't go clay bashing "at my convenience" if it was stored with another cert' holder and it just wasn't what I would like to happen. Her impression on her face also when I told her I had made a deposit on a gun kind of gave me a negative impression of what to expect. I explained to her about my good standing in life and left them to decide if either my minor past or home security could be an issue. Franchi Harrier
So has anyone from Notts had a recent visit on first SGL application and can give any idea of how long they waited for their decision? I'm assuming two weeks? Anyone had a rejection and what for? Any restrictions attached either? Best regards Matt

Franchi Harrier
Because I need a brattonsound St7 I have my fully carpeted 3 gun cabinet for sale. As new and been fitter for 2 months with no damage etc. taking a loss on it but want £80 and buyer collects from Nottingham. Has handle, top and bottom 3 pin locks with two sets of keys, no wall bolts and meets BS Standards. Just cause I've been burgled before I need a vault type safe. PM me
HDAV
So they say because your house has been burgled a BS standard cabinet is no good? We're guns previously stolen? Making it up as they go along.....
Franchi Harrier
No never owned guns before. They seem over cautious on prevention. I've so far laid flooring in the loft and still await the brattonsound ST7 safe to get up there (tight squeeze through loft door). Mount it to the wall and then reinforce the loft door with a sheet of steel and two hardened hasp and staples with decent locks. If after this and a tile falling off the roof onto my car earlier through hammering I'm not gonna be happy. ATB Matt
