Archie-fox
hope this is in the rite section.. i was sat having a snooze on my sofa yesterday and there was a nock at the door, so i opend it to find a middle age guy in a tracksuite.. he said "have you got a fox terrier" to which point i said yes why?? he said ive a terrier who needs serving can i use you dog??, its not unusual for me to be asked this and it happens all the time... i asked him a few questions like whats he going to pay?? is his bitch ready, i was just being polite as there was no chance i would let my dog near his... he said his dog was ready now and could he take my terrier with him..."not a chance was my reply"...he then said "come on mate ill bring him back" at this point my mood changed and i stepped off my doorstep and looked on my drive to see about 3 lads all dressed the same in a tatty 4x4.. i said leave your number and il get back to you after ive spoken to the other half...at this point he said forget it and walked off... now im no expert on this type of thing but im sure he was going to steal him and i would have never seen him again...so ive dropped my dog off at my parents house some 40 miles away for a few days and told them to keep him out of sight for a few days, not to let him run round the farm yard as he normally is left to do abit of ratting or chase rabbits out of the garden... ive reported it to the police but its really shaken up the other half who thinks these guys will snatch him when he is being walked by her...now ive been in loads of situations with my job but nothing as blatent as this!!! what do you guys think?? Mungler
Take physical precautions and get some CCTV in. The amount of times people come to us "after the event" and say if only.... but by then it's too late and any opportunity lost. CCTV won't stop criminals but it is useful - someone looking to steal your dog will be keeping an eye on your place and mooching about. The CCTV will let you know what's going on - who has been to your door, when and what they look like or who has driven past your house, in what vehicle, what number plate and when. You are now "on notice" and so you want to give it your best.

Archie-fox
one other piece of advice if you do fit cameras and you do the above make sure you wipe the hard drive would never do that lol...but i think im gonna sort out some sort of cctv over the next few days, the more i think about it the more i belive they cant steal him from the house so there were trying another tactic...he is a pedigree and has a good blood line so i guess that makes him a target... WelshLamb
Send your terrier away on a holiday for a few weeks, and in the meantime borrow a huge angry Rottweiler
oscarsdad
Bloody hell Rich, ****** everywhere, sorry to hear about that - I assume Archie is not phased being a terrier anyway. I have had them eyeing up my terrier for the same reasons. I considered squaring up to them over it but since they fight for fun decided against it as don't like hospital food. You could get am ip webcam - I got one one to keep an eye on my dogs and they are cheap and can be set up to alert you to movement, record or you can view the cam on your iPhone. If you need some where even further away from the ****** for archie to stay for a few days then give me a shout mate.
