SakoQuad
I've been given a couple of hundred Eley 12g, No 7 30 & 32 grm paper case cartridges which was a very nice surprise, must have cost a bob or two as they are not old stock either. I am now a bit uncertain about what I might decently use them on as it is a size I have never used before! Normally I think 6's for pheasant, pigeon & corvids, 5's for duck and rabbit, 1's for fox, 28grm of 7.5's for clays. Clearly they will be fine for pigeon / crows but does anyone use this sort of load for anything else? I guess I am thinking about pheasant but my instinct is to stick with 6's as 7's could be a tad lightweight - thoughts appreciated - thanks
motty
Those loads will do fine for pheasants and pigeons.
Whitebridges
7's will work fine on partridges, pigeons and pheasants. Don't shoot anything too rangey and they'll kill just fine. I love using paper cartridges the last lot I had were Lyalvale Express No 6 I think. The smell you get from paper cases is worth the expense....uuuummmmm. guest1957
Paper cased #7 would be the sort of thing I imagine they use on grouse (never had the luck or money to shoot at one!)
SakoQuad
thanks for the replies. I don't have any opportunities for grouse either! and partridge very rarely but walked up pheasant could be just fine for these by the sound of it. I suppose on reflection a pheasant without feathers isn't THAT much bigger than a pigeon. I haven't shot with paper cases for 40 years or more (when they were all you could get) and then I think I only ever used Eley 5 shot on everything. At the present day prices I don't think I'll be using them much once these are gone! Thanks again
