OK, 35RPM seems good to me, but what is classed as faster or slower for different conditions? Or what is too fast and too slow?

Ditto kirky

20- 25 rpm calm days

35-40 rpm windy days

I use a speed controller to controll rpm

I have never had really good days with the magnet went it has been calm though :good:

its a mine field mate some days i put the magnet out and you mite as well put out a scare crow

out in your decoys and other days the pigeon are trying to mate with it.

to me there no hard and fast rules just set it away and see wot happens

some days i have brought it in and they flock into the decoys with no magnet

so my way of things is to put my decoys out with magnet etc and if they are not comin in change things till they do never just sit there get off your but and try things move the patern slow down and speed up up the magnet . move to another part of the field etc pigeon shooting is an active sport and you wont get them by siting on your but drinking tea

cheers kirky

ps this is my look on shooting pigeons not set rules or anything as there is none

Kirky has said it, its again all about observation and is a part of fieldcraft. Try it, whatever the speed and see what happens. If things come over but spook change it. If you change it and they still spook, change something else.

You get a feel for what might be right, as a novice its hard to know but easy to see what works. Some people seem to think the magnet is like a magical tool and some days it is, some days like kirky says you might as well let a flashbang off the second a bird looks interested.

I have had days where I have cursed it being there, switched it off and had a great day. If you don't try new things you will never know. Think of it as just another deek, don't be afraid to move it, vary the speed or shove it in the truck

My personal opinion is there are conditions (weather, time of year, wind etc) which make it essential, other times like I say you might as well leave it at home. Over time I am sure I will learn by looking before I use it :good:

There is also some feeling that the birds are getting used to it, when they first came out they all used to go for it but I have seen plenty just ignore it and fly on by.
