Or what is too fast and too slow?

Malc
Interesting, because my speed controller decided to die today and I bypassed it. My Magnet spins at 40 RPM without the speed controller and seems to bring 'em in OK. It was quite windy.

NickHead
Have I got this right- 35 RPM, thats pretty fast. Will the birds stay on at that speed ? Total novice here on this subject, ignore any daft questions with the contempt I deserve. Regards Nick
pin
Kirky has said it, its again all about observation and is a part of fieldcraft. Try it, whatever the speed and see what happens. If things come over but spook change it. If you change it and they still spook, change something else. You get a feel for what might be right, as a novice its hard to know but easy to see what works. Some people seem to think the magnet is like a magical tool and some days it is, some days like kirky says you might as well let a flashbang off the second a bird looks interested. I have had days where I have cursed it being there, switched it off and had a great day. If you don't try new things you will never know. Think of it as just another deek, don't be afraid to move it, vary the speed or shove it in the truck My personal opinion is there are conditions (weather, time of year, wind etc) which make it essential, other times like I say you might as well leave it at home. Over time I am sure I will learn by looking before I use it There is also some feeling that the birds are getting used to it, when they first came out they all used to go for it but I have seen plenty just ignore it and fly on by. NickHead
Just found out - I was thinking in revs per second, so my last comment was rubbish. I thought it was a bit fast- 2100 rpm, ooo silly me. Now i realise 20 rpm is 1 rev/3secs - a lot better Cheers
Lord Geordie
1300RM and clip your wet shirts to the arms  You CAN just set it up turn it on and see what happens? Then adjust the speed up or down till you get interest LG
