Dougy
Had a phone call today of Mr farmer who has problem with Mr Charlie, I have permision to shoot on his land, now as i understand i have to obtain permision off the FLO before i can use a fire arm as i dont yet have an open ticket. the land is bordered by a road to one side a 30 foot high bank one side and open fields to the other. Now what will FLO require in regards information ? by the way i do trust the land owners permision 100%. Failing permision given by FLO i will have to use 12bore which i would rather not thanks dougy

Dougy
yes Mark its on ticket fox and vermin, I know in the past there has been allot of posts on here about the difference from one county to another being different. I would not take any shot unless i was sure of the end result, ie call in close and less than 100yds.

Dougy
Thats ok Mark i fully understand the issues. The situation is what do you do having gained permision, pass the job onto somebody else with a recognised or should i say prefered fox caliber ie centrefire, or use what tools you have yourself, make sure you do the job properly, buy that i mean a quick clean kill. I could use a shotgun but my past experience of seeing foxes shot was one that i would rather forget. Not by me was a fox drive some years ago. I am intending to apply for centrefire in the next few months. Which, i'm not sure yet. But if the oppertunity is missed i doubt it will come again in my direction If all goes well this could open up more gates in the area. deadeye ive
Now what will FLO require in regards information ? name address and a map. what caliber are you using please. And a land holding number if you can obtain one ...........With all this info on hand forget your FLO for the time being and ring the girls at Staffs Firearms (Yes they ARE actually ladies ) and they might be able to tell you over the Phone Yes or NO . Failing that you are in the hands of a system where every closed license holder requires land checking ASAP for fear of loosing out but really a eagerness to get out there on something new . :yp: I have a feeling you'll revert to shot gun as a stopgap but like Miffy has said you could take advantage of a 1 off opportunity and have the CORRECT hardware on hand and pull the trigger yourself However the catch would be that to be cosha the person with authority to grant shooting rights would have to be made aware first . Best of Luck
Dougy
Thanks chaps. Mr farmer rang earlier today to tell me that another broody was taken last night not long after we sussed out the best aproach. I left my handy little device out to find out what time the visitor pops round but it failed to attract the target, obviously preffered chicken to squirrel basted with oil of sardine Any way being as it is being a persisant little ****** i will have to use a shotty for now. I know for a fact that the area is inundated with charlie and nobody in the area controls them so with a bit of luck after giving FLO a ring this after my fingers are crossed for the OK. If 17s not suitable for charlie then ill beOK on the land for rabbits eh! :yp: another reason for me to go for a more appropriate calibre for the job. Do you think i should go for a 50BMG
