colin lad
went for a few hours pigeon shooting today to try out my new 12g o/u i picked up from wabbitbosher, was only going for a few hours so didn't take loads of gear just half a dozen decoys and a chair with a peice of scrim net 1 meter by 1 meter, set out my decoys, backed myself into a hedge row sat my chair down up next to a tree and parked my self on it pulled my net across in front of me, was sitting there gun resting on my thigh pointing skywards eagerly waiting for the pigeons, after about 10 mins something caught my eye moving along the ground along the hedge row i was sat in. it went round the tree i was up against as it came round i could see it was a big dog fox about 2 to 3 foot away so i sat tight not moving it came right up to me and stopped to sniff my welly that was sticking out under the net, slowly pushing the safety of with my thumb the click alerted the fox that looked up saw me hesitated a second then started to run, not into the hedge but straight out in front of me towards the decoys, BIG mistake i dropped the barrel over the net brought it to shoulder and let the 1st shot off hit it about 5 yards away in the hind leg which bowled it over then a quick second shot to the chest and that was it. talk about exciting am surprised it couldn't hear my heart thumping lol ended the day after an hour and a half with 6 pigeon and 1 fox, only stopped as a farmer i had been introduced to phoned to say come over to mine so i can give you a map and show me his land ( new permission) all in all a great day colin
al4x
Nice one Colin its funny at times how some foxes show no instinct yet others catch your scent at 100 yards and are off, either that or they are just tame round you, had that one not run into my .243 that was coming to see us

rainman_l
Had almost the same happen to me at the weekend. I was set up at the bottom of a bank at the foot of a railway line. I hear this hurried footfall through falled leaves to my right, thought perhaps its a squirrel, and to my astonishment a large fox appears out of the hedge 4 meters from where I am sitting. As I turn onto him he darts under the fence to the railway line and up over the tracks.
