I thought good question will find out My understanding is it it simply a development of the Blunderbuss, which obviously begs the question....... what is the origin of the Blunderbuss?! Kes Posted November 19, 2012 Report Share Posted November 19, 2012 There are wheel lock sporting guns so I suspect they developed seperatley but the earliest sporting guns seem to be continental. Blunderbuss was developed to compensate for lack of accuracy/close range/many targets/ different shot. I suggest the two are no more related than by the priming and firing mechanisms.
