kent
I doubt subsonic is possible with safety the max bullet weight is just too light in relation to case capacity.
moor man
Hi Chris, before attempting this (not recommended) google 'reduced load detonation' I wouldnt do it, but the same thought occurred shortly after joining my club, general consensus was it was too risky.. Check with your range officer before trying any unusual loads. Get yourself a .357 or .44 underlever rifle if you want to liven things up at the range , stay safe, regards, Moor Man. kent
Trailboss is hassle free and works safely but i cant see the point in a subsonic 243. I loaded and shot a lot of subsonic 308 with it but you need to have a fair understanding of twist rates etc to get stability, often with the light/short end of the projectile ramge and even with a 308 you are talking 4-600 ft/lbs using 150-180gr bullets, on a 243 i would expect ypu will need to descend to 55-60 gr bullets at a guess for stability and then you get into realistic expansion questions without simple accessability of cast lead etc. Trailboss wont give you flashover or detonation problems but you still risk a stuck bullet or moderator baffle strike if stability is borderline. I pushed the limits on my 12" twist 308 to find the 'limit' and it is interesting watching BIG 200gr .30 cal bullets tumbling through the air and keyholing the target with a high mag scope and tiny recoil (no moderator fitted!). It can be done but to be honest even i found it nothing more than an interesting experiment to broaden my knowledge and in the real world i could find only one realistic use for it which was quite specific. Just buy another gun. such a light bullet subsonic is just like a .22lr anyway. I seriously doubt this one can be done as subsonic. .308 etc with heavy for cal bullets is just so different to a .
Dekers
I think most know I don't reload and whilst I understand the concept I am short on detail. But the question obviously comes to mind, WHY? The .243 is designed/used as a fast(ish), flat(ish) shooting, killing round. I would be interested to hear the rationale/use for a sub version!? Cheers
