Mungler
I have been hunting around for some new woodwork for my MX8. I have had a few punts at some stuff on ebay but everything has been going for silly money - a second hand stock went for £400+ and a forend I was bidding on eventually went for $203. Last week I found a nice looking stock off Guntrader for £150. It arrived yesterday and I gave it a quick once over before going to work - it was a lovely looking piece of wood (and it smelt nice). The nice chaps at Essex Gun had prior warned me to check the stock, which on the MX8 tends to hairline crack and split around the trigger area. Low and behold, this stock was split and had been tocuhed up - you could see where the stock had been re-oiled and the feint crack was a slightly darker colour where it had taken in the oil. So, back it goes and I start again - I have been promised a refund. Just all rather disappointing.
Cranfield
The good part of that story is, that you are getting a refund. I have only had one stock replaced (due to an accident) and I went to a Gunsmith, chose the stock and he fitted it. That has got to be a better option than playing around on eBay. Mungler
I was looking at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A%3AIT&rd=1 What's a tang exactly?
the last engineer
it would be the what you know as the pc of steel that extend to the rear of the action with the top lever, this slots into the stock top and bottom, some gun models have differering widths therefore not all stocks will fit that model. Mungler what type of stock is it your looking for, there are a number here i know of, with details of drop cast heel so on i may be able to track one down, not a promise, but no harm in trying right, it wouldn't be any trouble just a little time on the phone. Dunkield
What's a tang exactly? The sticky out bit The tang of a file for instance is the bit the handle fits on, not the rough bit. So in this instance, it sounds like there is a piece of metal that goes under the fore end?
