17 hmr

Yep, same as any ammunition really, get lots of different brands etc and have a day plinking! Good practice, good fun and you'll find a clear winner.

Don't forget the barrel warms up pretty quick, I find it better to wait a minute or more between each shot because of this. And you may find it helps to keep the "test" fair if you run a brush down the barrel after every 20-30 shots - just my 2p but, although its different when you're out in the field, you should do all you can to find the right ammunition.

My coach used to say; clean steel is consistent, dirt isn't.

I tried fmj bullets out of interest and would say they're useless on anything smaller than a hare (just pass straight through).

I've had a lot of miss-fires with hornady but they're what my rifle prefers and are easiest to get around here - worth noting though.

Note everything down! If Winchester took 16 clicks to shoot where cci do at 100yds - you'll thank yourself for writing it down when all you can get is Winchester but your sights are all set up for cci and the farmer's demanding you do something about the rabbits!

Mainly dependant on ammo, I must say heat up of a barrel never created me the slightest worry in the least. If I was to buy another (which I wont) it would be another CZ there is no question in my mind in the slightest on that

Its a HMR, you are going to have to do some serious shooting to get the barrel that hot!

I believe the hornady and winchester are the same after using ten of each brand the impact point was exactly the same, have got some remmington accutips but haven't had the chance to use them yet, if there was a difference I doubt it would be a big one, how you find the .17? As soon as I get my variation in for my .243 the .22 is going as I find the hmr so much better

I wouldn't want to be without either.

Tend to use the .17 walking about in daylight or in a well lamped area where bunnies are getting a bit lamp shy. Try not to use late at night near the village as it gives a good crack.

Use the .22 for heavy rabbit control. Shot 500 bunnies over some land this autumn once silage off. Use it lamping on foot or from a vehicle. Stealthy.

I use whatever .17HMR ammo I can get cheapest, but really don't rate the 20gr stuff. Different POI, pencil through bunnies. I got 150 rounds and gave nearly 100 away. Useless.
