walshie
My FEO said I couldn't apply for a FAC based on club shooting until I was a full member of the club - i.e after I'd finished my probation period.
flynny
If you have perms to use the shotgun on ,ask your farmer if you can shoot 22 on his land for vermin control , simples, you then have a valid reason to own the 22 rifle, Atb flynny
Imperfection
hi all had my shotgun certificate now for 3 years and now wanting to shoot . 22 target would i be better being in a club for a while or putting in for it as soon as i join a club bearing in mind waiting times thanks As you dont already have FAC you will need to become a probationary member of a rifle club first. bedwards1966
You have to go through a probationary period with the club (3-6 months) before you can become a full member. At this point you can get a firearm for target shooting. The other way is to get one for pest control if your farmer allows you permission to shoot vermin with a rifle, this would allow you to get a rifle sooner - though it would not be conditioned for target shooting. If waiting times are bad in your area you could do this then get it amended for target shooting when you become a full member of a club... Have you considered getting a 22 or hmr for vermin? If you can get the land and its cleared you stand a good chance. If your just going to do target you mise well apply for a 223 or something bigger providing your club chairman can vouch for you shouldnt be a problem
Bloke
Home office advice to the police says 3 months probation, but clubs can extend this if they wish, or can waive it in certain circumstances. Certainly some FEOs are now allowing people to apply as soon as they join target clubs, will carry out licencing checks and visits, then will just hold the licence till the club secretary say the individual has completed their probation. bedwards1966
The probation period cannot be less than 3 months, I understand most are 6. The caliber you are allowed depends on what the club is allowed to shoot - join an indoor .22lr club and it's not possible to shoot a .223 there, so you have no good reason and can't be granted one. mickmep
when i was granted my target rifle i was told by feo that i had to have full membership of the rifle club before application. i could not apply for fac for rough shooting and then apply for a target rifle. also if you are applying for a fac for a target rifle one of the referees has to be a club committee member. best advice is to phone your feo and have a chat
