Thanks stuart. :) Best of luck in bony scotland, hope you get some nice hinds. :good:

If you dont mind me asking, how much is it?

Frank.

The Stalking only works out about £40 per head + tip for the whole day

We always get something, most we have shot was 12 between 3 of over 2 days, so it worth every penny.

Hi all,

Was out this morning with a mate and his 6.5 x 55 sako rifle, what a lovely rifle it is too. :(

We spoted 3 pricketts some 400 odd away at the crack of dawn :) .

Mist was around on and off and the sky was a gloriouse pre dawn red.

Fallow bucks grunting every now and then could be heard in the distance, O' how i love that sound, brings on a real autumn feeling. :)

Anyway, we was on open ground, in some tall grass and rushes, getting soaked, trying to get close to these lads.

Wild country where we were. Got to within 120 odd yds and the heads were up, they had spoted us

. :good:

After selecting the safest one to shoot, i got given the rifle and told to take my time, as deer watching you, can tend to make you panick sometimes, (human nature).

I put out the harris and slowly put the cross hairs, just behind the front leg, imagining where its heart/lungs would be. Deep breath, out, squeeze, KA-BOOM, thwack :D , sure sighn of a good hit.

He went straight down, head up for a split second and dead.

The 6.5, sure does bring them down quick. :D

well done frank  you certainly wont be disappointed with any make of 6.5 you buy.

ive always had carl gustavs ,sporterised by kimber or custom built.

not much you put the cross hairs on will get up . they have probably the best ballistic coefficient of any round out there. easy to reload, versatile and of mild recoil; i often find myself thinking lovingly of mine and not princess hummer. !!:lol:

said it all in one 17 hummer. :)

I love the caliber for deer shooting purposes, for fallow, reds and Sika.

But, if i lived in Scotland and had access to roe, i would use the .223 and if your laws change, it would be an ideal roud for muntjack too.

Yes for us anyway Frank, we pay the stalker a dayly rate and then that is divided down between us, so it costs less but you get to shoot less often (but still walk just as much!)

We are also doing the BASC stalking in Arran in January and that is £175 for the week, which is even better value, but we are not expecting to see or shoot as many hinds as we do in October, and we are expecting to get soaked every day from what people tells us :good:

Most people think red stalking is prohibitively expensive, but have never made a serious effort to find any, if you go by the prices in the back of shooting mags it is expensive, but if you get out there and work at getting direct contacts it doesn't need to be. We got lucky through a friend of a friend, and are very protective of our opertunity, which is why we don't share the information with anyone else. It's a bit like getting a great permission to shoot pigeons, you look after it and hopefully you will hang onto it.
