musky
Hi! I've just bought a Dereelight X searcher torch after reading quite a few posts on various sites with people saying how good the Dereelight nightmaster 800 are. The X searcher is meant to have a little bit more range than the nightmaster so I thought I would give it a go! I opted for the yellow led which they used to call amber because for years I have used my lightforce 170 with an amber filter. I took it out last night with a mate of mine to see if charlie was out to play. To be fair it was'nt the best of night with it being nearly a full moon and no clowd cover. I also took my 170 lightforce and my leica geovids so that we could get a true reading of ranges. I've read qoutes from people saying that they have shot foxes at over 300yds with the nightmaster which is a fair old shot on the lamp. The only way I can describe the colour of the yellow led when out in the field is like a torch when the batteries are about dead. I lamped a few objects with it and got my mate to have a look through his scope to see if he could make stuff out. He reckoned he could see no bother at all at ranges in excess of 350yds but it just looked wrong. Just wondered if anyone else is using either the nightmaster or the x searcher and which led colour they chose? I have seen a couple of clips on you tube and the red led looks good. Any views on this??? We did see a fox later on which was at about 250 yds and it seemed to light up no bother and my mate said he could see it no bother but was unable to take the shot. musky
Its the amber, or yellow as they call it now that I ordered with the torch. So red seems the way to go then. I've never had much joy with green lights in the past. Cheers
stubby
green is actually the easiest colour for our eyes to focus on, am using green on my new P7 torch

V8 90
Yes better than my home brew but at 7x the cost it should be ! ! - my home brew is better for sub 100yds - I have the beam focused quite tight on my NM800IR for distance & it's a bit much sometimes sub 100yds, could reduce the contrast I guess, but can't be ***** with fiddling about. al4x
Red works well, green is supposed to be the hardest to ID under and shortest range, IR is simply brilliant with the right night vision
