Has anyone got the Yukon Ranger Pro Digital 5X42 NV Monocular?

Want to know more about this particular unit please.

How far can you identify Foxes etc.

Any advice on this unit would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

As a bought unit not to good, but if you attach a small screen and fit a good IR you can spot fox a good distance away,my lamp man has one.

I can pm you his email address if you want, he can then send you photo's and answer any questions.

Regards,

I bought one (Yukon Ranger) and after the initial burst of enthusiasm rather regret it.

As a hand held unit it is just not up to the job. The very low resolution eyepiece display is not good enough and does not do the sensor justice. Also the IR is not bright enough.

One good thing about it is the auxilliary power input and the av (video) output. That means you can couple it to other kit.

Shooting with night vision can be a bit boring for anyone with you and you will also suffer from "black eye" where one of your eyes becomes used to the dark while the other is exposed to the bright output of the nightvision.

I ended up buying a cheap portable dvd player from Halfords because that gave me a 7" monitor with av input and built in rechargeable battery.

By taking the output from the Yukon and playing it into the monitor and putting the Yukon on a small tripod it made quite a good spotter. I supplemented the IR with a filter over my tracer hand held lamp and the whole kit, although rather bulky, worked well. A bit like watching tv. The image quality is much better used this way.

Now I hardly use it at all, because it all gets a bit clumsy. The Nightmaster 800 torch with IR LED is a better illuminator as well.

Incidentally, the picture from the Yukon played on a 7" monitor is a hell of a lot better quality image than the one you see on the very low resolution built in screen. A shame they did not get that right, saving a few pennies in the wrong place.

I disagree completley with the above comments. I have the non pro version and with additional IR ( a 30 quid odicforce laser) I can clearly and easily watch, not just spot rabbit size objects out to 200yrds. With the NM800IR its much clearer and greatly improved as it procuces a cleaner light. Yes you do get blackout from the bright screen but I also get his with the NV on my rifle, so its no great problem. Once you get used to adjusting the focus (which I agree is fussy and needs frequent adjustment)its no drama to use at all.

Using it with an additional screen is also a massive bonus if you want to roof mount it or something similar.
