Understand that there are a ever increasing amount of posts like yours on this forum , first post up and your asking for land to shoot on .

You will get a better response if you are seen to be taking a active part in the forum first .

try introducing yourself properly , tell people a little about yourself , age ,shooting experience are you insured , other hobbies etc, etc .

There are loads of great guys on here who help each other out all the time and I am sure eventually someone may offer you a day or days shooting.

Other than that you will like the rest of us have to get knocking on farmers doors .

I hope you get something sorted.

Hi Fenlandshire thanks for your post and kind tips much appreciated, i have spent the last 2 months knocking on local farmers doors but as usual everywheres sown up.

I truly didnt expect to have someone offer me some shooting on my first post but i certainly dont mind paying for a few days shooting i just cant find anyone in the area that have paying customers, hence posting on this website.

Being new to any sort of forum i take on board the good advise you gave above, think i better start again and do another post with your suggestions

Thanks again

You could maybe try joining a wildfowling club. BASC have a permits book that will highlight places close to you. Most of these clubs have a bit of rough shooting with them as well.

I've been a member of BASC since before it became BASC and have enquired after pigeon shooting several times and have never had any offered.

Do you know something I don't because I'd like some pigeon shooting too.

Fully insured, retired so available to shoot when necesary, ie when the pigeons are attacking the crop not just week-ends.

Have all my own kit and lots of experience.

Beretta77 sorry for hijacking your post but I often hear about what BASC has or does but it has never done a thing for me except take my money and insure me each year for which I have never had need of so far.

Hi EMcC i think your find that most if not all the land down here is sown up due to the popularity of the sport which is fair enough first come first served.

I've been knocking on farmers doors for months now but to no avail usually with the answer of already got someone or they have pheasant shooting.

I was lucky enough to have my Grandparents land that i did all my shooting on for years but as above the land has now been sold and im unable to shoot it anymore, so i've missed the bandwaggon so to speak......Just one of those thing in life im afraid..... Lots more knocking on doors for me

As far as im concerned if you want permissions then you have to go out and get it never give up cause it wont come knocking on your door you never know the PIGEON GODS may look down on me one day LOL

I dont think the likes of BASC put many people onto pigeon shooting due to what i said above

Having said that i dont mind paying for some shooting which is what im looking around locally for only trouble is i would like to go at least once a week which would work out a bit expensive, still the odd shoot here and there will keep that BUG at bay

Good Luck with your hunting

As above BASC do a wildfowling permits book which i belive only started a year or so ago. It doesnt involve pigeon shooting but wildfowling. You can buy day tickets to go out on a flight with an experinced member. Then if you like it pay your fees and join the club as a probationary member for a year. Most of the clubs have some rough/vermin shooting included in the membership with the wildfowling. Something you will need to research with clubs that are close to you.

Bearing in mind that some will have a waiting list to join.

I personally think BASC with their faults are very helpfull everytime i have phoned them and i think its worth pointing out that their remit is not to supply shooting to the members but to be a voice for the shooting commmunity working on political issues that have the potential to end shooting or alter it for the worse (including the insurance),

My problem is that I have got older !!

What has happened is that the farm owner, of my age or older, has died and their son's have taken over. They have realised that their school mates or people they mix with have taken up shooting so have moved in and as a result I am no longer required.

Or, in some cases, the youngsters have found they can sell pigeon shooting at a lot more than I can afford.

I see it all the time around here, the pigeons are flocking in on the rape/corn etc during the week and is left alone for the influx of pigeon shooters at the week-end.

Pigeon shooting is no longer done for crop protection but is treated as another source of income for the farmers.

Cant disagree with you, it is becoming increasingly popular.

Also agree, but that is the nature of the beast....We are all in the same boat well most of us

All im going to do is keep knocking and asking,as people say it is very HARD to get permissions these days, you just have to keep at it

I know if i keep going i will get something in the end Hard Work = Results

Happy Hunting :)
