Hampshire Police

Just seen the one o'clock local news. Apparently Hampshire Police have apologised for the 5 month delay in renewing certificates. They said that they were previously overly beaurocratic and that procedures had changed. They also stated that the backlog has ended.

Let's hope that that's a fact!

Hampshire Constabulary has publicly apologised for delays in its firearms licensing service and says it has made improvements. Hear an interview with Mike Eveleigh of the BASC firearms team and Hampshire police on BBC Radio Solent this morning: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p012y7dv The interview is 39 minutes into the programme. The link will be valid until about mid-morning on January 18th.

I am not convinced by the excuse of the deluge of renewals due to the change from 3yr to 5yr licence terms,

Not everyone changed from 3 to 5yr FAC terms at the same time, for instance my shooting partner changed to a 5 year term after his certificate expired a year before i did and he stills renews the same time before me??

The proble, is that because of the change there is still a hump where more renewals come up. That isn't really an excuse though because it's not something they can claim they don't know about so can plan for it.

I would like to have heard her reason to allow expired certificate holders to keep their guns during the renewal process....

Now I waited over 6 months for my FAC grant to arrive, yes I was a bit miffed at the delay but it didn't bother me that much. My partners father has waited over 6 months for a renewal and in this time his cert expired so poor show.

But...on reflection if you really knew the staffing cuts you would understand why the show is in **** order. It's dire, plain an simple.... FEO's have left and rather than replace they've just handed the patch to an existing one, they really are run ragged! I think all forces are going to go that way and unless there is a "national standard" in the process and red tape dept this will continue.

If i remember correctly i was still shooting pistols when the licence went from 3 to a 5 year term, so its quite a few years ago.

The general view is that Hampshire Firearms Licensing is a disgrace. You would expect better given that Andy Marsh, Deputy Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary and ACPO lead on firearms and explosives licensing went public last September (2012) promising a more efficient e-service.

I think it must be getting better. I posted my application for SGC on the 28th of nov and my certificate came through on the 10th of jan. Portsmouth FEO is a top bloke

Bob is a good bloke, I had a good chat about my 7 month delay, he was not impressed with the situation. Glad things seem to be sorted out now though...

We're is the delay? bob is a very busy person but he gets through his work fast so I'm guessing that its some office Clark somewhere that can be **** to do anything

What did bob say about the delay?

Yes the licencing department were under staffed etc etc

He was agreeing that the service was poor and unacceptable, we briefly spoke about them telling people to keep their guns and carry on shooting when their tickets have expired etc....

He was very sympathetic.
