Dirty Harry
On my rough shoot there is a willow plantation along a brook. On the other side of the brook are some very big fields of maize that are absolutely full of pigeon and crows. I'm talking thousands of pigeon. They must have been there for 3-4 weeks now. They seem to be roosting/resting in the willow. When you walk through they all get up and go back to feed or circle round and come back into land. I don't have permission to shoot the maize or on the other side of the brook. In not big into pigeon shooting. I have a dozen of so decoys but im guessing they would be unnecessary in the willow. What would be the best way to tackle them? I'm not after the shooting on the maize because I don't have the time to deal with it properly. berretta77
Sit in the willows and wait for them to come in or roost, dont seem to be much food around for them so i wouldnt think they will go far
shinybum
try using an air rifle, great fun and quiet too so wont scare all the pigeons every shot
Teal
See what time the birds are getting there during the day, and get there before them. Choose a spot with plenty of pigeon mess and feathers underneath and has a good angle of fire. If you can get a decoy or two lofted into the willows so much the better, but otherwise just find a comfortable place, wear a balaclava, wrap up warm and have fun!
