lou13
Hi! I have a firearm and shotgun certificate and my gun safe contains both rifles and shotguns, however my son, aged 23, wants to apply for a shotgun certificate. Now I know you can share a safe but in this case it would mean he had access to firearms. Rather than buying another safe can he put down on his application something along the lines of....."blah blah blah in my fathers gun cabinet with only him having access to the key" (I dont think that makes sense but you get the idea!) Please can someone tell me how to go about this and if they have any idea what they would write in the storage section. All help would be much appreciated! Thanks, lou13
delburt0
instead of taking views of law off here , myself would get in-touch with basc "if your a member" or your local firearms officer, you want to make sure you get this one right 1st time... landrover
you won't be able to share the cabinet, as you say he will have access to the firearms, my son and i both have fac/sgc but we have to have seperate safes,we both have the same calibres also, just as easy for him to get his own safe i would say. good luck with his application
timps
You could get round it by not having a gun listed on his licence, my friend had his gun in my cabinet like this. The gun will be on your licence and he can borrow it for up to 72 hours at a time returning it to you for storage so no need to write anything down for storage. If he wants the gun on his licence I would suspect the FLO would insist he had access to proper storage.

If you aren't prepared to go to the expense of a second gun cabinet, then this is probably the best course of action.

Thanks, lou13 He wouldn't be allwed access to the safe as it has your sec.1 stuff in for which he won't have a cert. You would need all his shotguns listed on your SGC. Why doesn't he just get an FAC as well and have all the guns listed on both (well, all 4) certs so there is no problem? J.
brett1985
Just to throw a spanner in the works.... Yes, you should be able to share a cabinet. You will however, need to make your section 1 gun unobtainable though by using a cable lock through the trigger guard attatched to a point in the safe so it cannot be removed. I shared a cabinet with my dad for 6 months while storing my section 1 rifle in there when he only had a sgc. Have a chat with your feo mate. :-)
