utectok
Hi all my trusty old 686 has started to refuse to eject the bottom barrel with heavier loads (32gm 34gm) strangly the big brass on 50 gm 3" shells seem to eject and so do clay shells 21gm. Annoyingly the spent cartridge jams in the breach and can only be removed by putting a rod down the barrel. It's as if the brass is swelling on firing and binding in the chamber?? But I don't know? I have replaced the ejector springs and disassembled and cleaned the ejectors. Any other ideas?? Cheers Guys will
Beretta06
Have you changed cartridges at all? I had a 686 that always held onto Stirling Game cartridges. It was fine with any other make (some with even longer brass) but the SG always stuck. Once I stopped using them the problem never repeated itself. PhilR
I used to have that problem with my old Miroku 800. The cure was to clean the chamber until it was almost a mirror finish.
utectok
Thanks for the advice guys ill get cleaning. Yeah I thought it was the carts too and sold at a massive discount on here the snipe 34gm I had. Turns out it happens with quite a few carts not the 3" ones but I don't shoot more than a handful of them in a year so not much testing! Also I suppose the carts are dusty from rattling round in a bag or pocket might be a problem

utectok
Interesting mines a 1994 I think and has 3" stamped on the barrels not that ancient but a fair bit of foreshore use so looks it! Also I did buy new ejectors and the levers on the fore end but the need finishing and fitting best done by a gunsmith not bodger me! If I cant fix it I'll take it in after the end of the fowling season! Edited February 7, 2013 by utectok
goodo123
Check wear on ejectors, specificaly rotational movement when ejectors are open. Could it be ejectors rotating and nipples the brass case?
utectok
bit of play when open but when closed Id have thought the faces of thew breach would stop that?? Dunno

Dunkield
I have a 687 from the 80's and that had a ver intermittent eject problem. The ejectors were fine and I had replaced the springs just in case, it didn't cure it. I put it into a decent gunsmith who played with it for days. In the end he modified one of the ejecting rods and extended the length of the spring just for me to try. I never saw the issue again on that barrel so I modified the other one to match myself. This was the last resort and IMO you should only consider it after all the other tips. If I let them fly, both cartridges eject about 3 foot over my shoulder, dead handy when you have one of those nosy sorts who creaps up behind you at clay shoots to see how much you are giving them I should add this mod was about 10 years ago at least and there have been no side effects like ejector wear etc... That's really interesting I did stretch the spring a bit but that also didn't work. Today I shot two shells both ejected but then I had scrubbed the chamber with the bronze brush in a makita drill? Dunkield
If cleaning is making a difference, keep looking at that. As I said modifying the ejectors and springs should probably be the last resort.
