dogone
I was in my gun shack reloading 300 WSM after working up a load at 400 yds. I glanced up and saw two magpies land in a tree about 60 yds off. I shut off the brass tumbler ,put on muffs and opened the gun hatch. One pie flew off but the .204 caught the other. The cartridge wasn't quite hot off the press but I was. The last time this happened was when I had just finished sighting the .204 in at 200 yds and a magpie landed on the target stand.dead bird. SSS
Correct me if I have got this wrong, but you shot a magpie out of a tree top with a 204 ruger... Correct? Was the tree low in a valley or something?

Was the tree low in a valley or something? If you look at his location he is in western canada , his neighbors are probably 100 miles away . dogone
Nearest neighbor that direction is about 17 miles and the tree was low. Not even a cow between us , maybe a coyote or fox

dogone
I felt the 300 would damage to much meat. although I usually only take head shots.
