another hmr question

Personally - I would buy new that way I know how it's been looked after & how many rounds have been fired 10,000 is a lot of rounds ! Perhaps that's just a ballpark figure you plucked from the air ?

In reality a new Hmr isn't going to break the bank - they can be had new from around £400 - is it worth buying second hand to save £100-£200 ? For me it isn't but that's just me ! !

A lightly used one will be shot in - obviously - I have heard of them been shot out but I wouldn't know at what shot count.

For info my CZ 452 Hmr has had around 3000/4000 rounds through it - all Remmington Accutips & is still an absolute Tack Driver.

I've only put around 500/600 through my Browning T Bolt Hmr I've never sat & done any real target practice with it - I just check the zero every so often

The amount of propellant and the heat at which it exposes the barrel to are paramount. If you take the worst of the centre fires that are still good for 1200-1500 rounds (thinking swift and .243 with 55's) your burning around 40 grns or more with the HMR your shooting way less than 10% of that load and shooting it at 1500fps and over slower. As much as you hear talk I wouldn't mind fully cleaning and examining the bore of a "shot -out" HMR with a bore scope as I recon there aint such a thing yet in the uk (but there will be many rusted out and cruded up). If you did actually ever shoot one out the ammo costs would have been so much greater than the gun you will certainly have had your moneys worth! 10000 rounds at 20p a go are £2000 and I seriously doubt 10,000 could do the bore in,think how much is a replacement gun?
