Mondeo TDCI problem

Evening all,

My 2002 MK3 Mondeo 2l TDCI with 130k on the clock has developed a missfire / hesitation / cutting out problem. It only occurrs between 1800 - 2200 rpm and 50 - 70 mph in 4th and 5th at a steady cruise speed, I cant replicate it at any other speeds. It only lasts for no more than a second or so and then normal running resumes until it happens again, which can be shortly after at a continuous power.

listening to it the normal diesel rattle just stops for that short instant before resuming and it feels like the engine cuts then restarts and it is violent enough to shake the car like it would if one was about to stall when pulling off.
Ive cleaned out and tested the EGR, which works and wasnt clogged anyway and it hasnt mande any difference. My other thoughts were crank / cam position sensor, but surely that would cause the fault at all speeds, or the throttle pot may be worn and the ecu is 'losing' it temporarily and stopping the engine.
Im not getting any dash indications, and its not yet been on diagnostics.

Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers, Tom.

1st thought egr youve covered that, next injectors, in the meantime have a look at the rubber egr hose "going into the underneath of your egr valve" theres 2 one rubber 1 metal the rubber one gets tiny slits and holes cause your problem but as a rule it will throw the eml on and into safe mode

Cheers chaps,

I hope its not injectors, sounds like they may be nearly as much as the cars worth! Would some Redex / injector cleaner help in the short term do you think?

Will double check the pipes but I dont think there would be a split in the HP side as theres no clagging.

Cheers, Tom.

redex wont work,,, they will at the least need rejetting if you can get new injectors and someone to fit them it wont be a grand, you can replace them yourself and as far as recoding goes its a old wifes tale you can replace them without recoding its just getting someone with the no to do it for you with undoing everything and replacing everything in the right order, when i had mondeo taxis on my brother in law did a few of mine heas a ford master tech i left him too it he used to do it on my drive i just used to buy him 24 cans :good:
