Mickthemiller
Hi Anyone been to Treetops near Newport lately Iv'e been four times in the last year, and the first three were from good to very good, but the last time it seems to have dropped off, ,the people are friendly enough but some of the traps were out of action quite a few no birds even though they have new electrics, to be fair there was no argument and they were always knocked off the total.but stands were a bit rough under foot as well.My family are over in Newport for a couple of days next weekend and I was thinking of shooting a few rounds so I was wondering if it would be worth taking the gun. lhs
You could also try SW2000 not far from newport
HDAV
mick my most recent experience was similar to yours (in fact so bad i made notes going round) of 12 stands (24 traps) 11 stands open 4 empty traps 3 traps throwing 50% no birds No fresh tea or coffee, just a vending machine............ Disappointing.....
Mickthemiller
It is a shame really the place seems to have a lot of potential, if it was not for the fact they have just spent a lot of money on the premises you would have to say they are running the place down and have lost interest, lets face it they do have a big advantage over a lot of ground being open all the week, or is there some history there which makes people avoid the place therefore the lack of interest. It would be nice to see them turn things around and get it up to a good standard again. With regards to SW2000 I have to stay fairly close to where I am staying because I have my three springers with me and dont like to leave them in a strange place for to long, but thanks for the suggestion. I would leave the wife with them but she presses the button for me, mind she also shouts pull for me sometimes. That gets a few chuckles Mick
WelshLamb
Treetops have the claymate buttons, with a delay on them if you're shooting alone
Mickthemiller
Yes I know but find it easier letting the wife press the buttons, the fact that she also shouts pull just adds to the entertainment. Mick
HDAV
To be honest mick for a pop along in the area place to throw some lead in the air for a bit of fun there is nowhere else have to say not a fan of the current management spent loads on making the lodge less welcoming and reducing the seating to what ends? Shame it was so good.....

bryan7162
Going back a few years, when it was owned by Litts, Treetops was a fantastic place to go shoots on a Saturday were awesome, good targets and company, the ground was nice and tidy, traps always working and full. It was a fun place to be. Now to the present, Most traps not working due to being empty or broken, bins overflowing with empty shells. staff uncooperative, to the point of being aggressive to members, prices increased without notification and membership discontinued, Majority of ex members now shoot at S. W. 2000, where there is a variety of layouts, and a welcoming atmosphere.
HDAV
Mick one tip if you like most want to "see a pair" before you shoot make sure you pay for what you shot....
Mickthemiller
Yes I always do and as I said they have never argued about any numbers I have given them, as Bryan 7123 said a few years ago it was great I never knew it then but a couple of my mates have told me this. I am wondering what it is going to take to get them to wake up. Mick
HDAV
Hi mick did you go to treetops?
Mickthemiller
Hi HDAV No with the weather being so great I decided to give it a miss, I also remembered the last time I went up there on a sunny day I ended up skipping some tagets due to looking straight into the sun. We are probably going to Newport for a short break in two or three weeks time may try then Mick
Danoi99
I used to pop along to Treetops quite often ( from Bristol ) It was really good the first few times ! It is nice to go round and have a quiet shoot........get some unhurried practice in !! Last few times we went we felt...........well..........kinda ripped off !! the place was a mess........no coffee available..........so many NO BIRD's..........unfriendly staff !! Not been back, don't intend to go back either !! What a waste of a great little ground.........if I owned it there would be free tea and coffee, Bacon rolls for £1, that aint gonna happen any time soon at Treetops !!! Shame. Trevorevans
Was there about a week ago and to be honest got bored quickly, didn't even bother shooting some stands as they were so easy. Obviously I like to hit targets but also like to be challenged so don't mind missing either. Lately Treetops seems to be targeted more to the corporate, hen/stag party shooters. Pointless wasting £20 worth of cartridges on simple targets. I have in the past gone round there calling simo pairs just to feel challenged. There are lots of no birds/traps not working but they have never argued about the ammount on my counter when I tell them and explain which traps are down. Also there are signs asking you to put empty cases in the bins but you throw one in and 30 fall out because they never empty the them resulting in cases everywhere lol. Targets are very rarely altered, you could shoot there today then go back in a month and likely shoot exactly the same setup. Shame really as the ground has probably the best potential in South Wales as far as sporting is concerned.
