Topgunners
Hi All. Well we went out on Saturday and after driving round all of our permissions we couldn't find the pigeons feeding anywhere and even the rooks & jackies were few and far between. We met up with Ian from Wales and decided to go walk-abouts for an hour or so and he got a partridge and Alex ,(Al's boy) shot one and that was about it. After Ian and Alex had gone Al & myself went for a "mooch" about and found a heavy flock of "blackies" but the wind was in the wrong direction to set up anywhere viable, so we decided to have an "early bath" and would try again Sunday. Sunday we again drives round for an hour or two and decides to try yesterday's permission with all the rooks on and when we get there they are flying about in 10's & 20's and as we drive up to the top of the hill by the side of the wood; out flies 200 or more Pigeons. The wind has changed direction slightly and gives us a chance with a side-on direction. The 2 boys set up by an old pit and I set up a hide 200yards further down the hedgerow. A pattern of 10 deeks on the bouncing metal sticks (courtesy of U.K Shootwarehouse) are put out and within 2 minutes of sitting down I have dropped my first bird.A few more later and Alan joins me and then it was nice and steady shooting ALL day. View from the back of the hide. The one thing we noticed (yet again) about 12.00-12.30pm they suddenly died off and half an hour later or so they returned. Then I had a mad 40minute spell where I had 25 or so birds including 5 Double-Deckers (7 for the day), whilst Alan had nipped off to feed the boys. They also had a mad spell and by 4.00pm we had almost ran out of cartridges and decided to pick up. The boys had shot 71 blackies and picked up 62 & 10 pigeons . We had shot 103, picked up 92 and 1 feral that had got lost.. Total for the day 185. (Hey up NTTF see LUSH is still with us) and them god-damn Burrs picked up by the dogs are a nightmare. Jess came back looking like a Christmas fairy. Hopefully by next weekend the pigeons will be out and about. Dave K

Topgunners
good work guys you dont let the dog pick blackies up if they are still alive do you? Yes of course he does. If they try to bite him he barks at them turns them round and picks them up and brings them back to the hide.. Dave K
karl h
not so much the biting but there have been quite a few incidents of them going for the eyes that is what they go for if attacked by dog fox or any such like so quite a gamble if the dog eye sight is at risk!
