I have now reached the 21st century and bought a new PC with a recordable DVD drive. I've been told that the most compatible DVD & CD are -R, when using for playback of songs and films also that RiDisk are one of the best cost effective manufacturers out there. I've had a look on the web and was just blown away with the amount of choice offered, by RiDisk alone.

Help, which would best suit my needs?

Cheers fellas.

I use Philips DVD+R 4.7 GB a space to record any data, £15 for 25

I base my choice on a host of critical format selection requirements of compatibility with my Dell Dimension 9150 PC, which is they are found in the stationary cupboard at work :good:

Which make and model of DVD-R drive do you have?

There are only about 5 or 6 companies out there that produce disks, but there are many "dies" - the substrate onto which your drive "burns" the data. Some prefer one type, some like most, others will use only one main type well.

Generally cheap place to get disks from, is http://svp.co.uk/

Assuming you want 16x media..

Budget :-

RiVision Branded Overprint (16x) DVD-R

Spindle tub of 50

Product Code: 3444

£6.18

inc. VAT

Premium (pretty much the best you can get) :-

Taiyo Yuden Unbranded (16x) DVD-R

Spindle tub of 100

Product Code: 3260

£30.98

inc. VAT

Both should work, the TY ones are just that bit better :good:

Some find it usefull, if you are producing DVD's for sale for your business, scribbling on them with a felt tip isn't going to fool anyone you are nothing more than a one man band working from his back room :good:

We have quite a few drives knocking about the office now, I will get some disks and have a play soon.

Bit more info on them here:
