Frenchieboy
I received this Fallkniven Sharpening Stone from Salop Sniper today, thank you Matt for your generosity, it is much appreciated. I tried it on my stalking knife which is shown at 6:20 on the video - The same knife that I am having a sheath made for. I was so delighted at the way it sharpened the blade I decided to make a video showing how to use these marvelous sharpening stones using my Opinel knife which gets an awful lot of usage and was getting quite blunt. The stalking knife is more than sharp enough to shave with now as is the Opinel! I have to say that this is by far the best sharpening system that I have used so far and for the price (They are something like £14.99 plus P&P from Ronnie Sunshines) are extremely good value for money. Please note that at 5:15 I show just how well the DC4 can get a knife in no time at all by shaving a part of my arm with my Opinel - This is not a very clever thing to try as if your knife really is sharp enough to shave with the slightest slip can cause considerable damage to your arm. Always remember to observe safety when sharpening and using any knife! I hope that this video will help a few of you to understand how to sharpen a knife! Blunderbuss
Great little sharpeners, I've had a couple.
FalconFN
I have 2 but the latest one I got was hopeless, the ceramic side is so coarse as to be unusable for anything but regrinding. The older one has a very smooth slate like ceramic side that really gets a razor edge - I'd be lost without that one.

Both of those I've had were like that when new, but soon smoothed off after a little use.
srspower
Looks a really good system and looking on ebay they are pretty cheap too. I have a Damascus steel hand made knife I bought at the british shooting show but so far I've not managed to get a decent edge on it using a regular stone. Maybe this is the answer? For the price they cost you don't have much to loose by trying one. The one that I have certainly does a good job on my hunting knives - My knives might not be anything special and they are all quite cheap but they certainly are extremely sharp now, a lot sharper than when I got them! Where abouts are you? If you're close enough I would be happy to try to help or maybe you could fins someone in your area that has one to try. FalconFN
Both of those I've had were like that when new, but soon smoothed off after a little use. I'll tackle the kitchen knives first then and hopefully this one will settle down a bit. The first one I got looked like pure graphite was really smooth and has been the best sharpener I've ever owned.
aris
The problem I have with stones, is keeping the angle correct. It still takes skill.

Frenchieboy
i have just watched the vid and thought the same another good vid hows the wife doing pete Thanks Linny mate. That "tat" can be a bit embarrassing now and then so I sometimes have to keep it covered! Marlene is doing quite well now thanks. She still has to take it a bit easy but is building herself up steadily with a bit of exercise. I think she has a bit of a "fancy man" down at the doctors surgery now - She had to go yesterday about a bit of a pian in her chest and what looked like a rash coming up. It turns out that now she has shingles on her chest so she is classing herself as a walking bio-hazzard! She doesn't quite see the funny side of it when I start calling out "Unclean, Unclean" any time she walks by me, or when I threatened to get one of those radiation warning notices to put on the front door but her sense of humour is back as she has decided not to hit me with the frying pan as it would mean more money to buy a new one
