Mitchsan51
Thinking of treating myself to a Kia Sportage. Any thoughts ?
Oxon T
I think they look a great car. Very good for the money. Higher spec ones have lots of toys. Only criticism the reviewers seem to have is the rather wobbly ride. I was looking at them recently. I have only done web research on them though so cant say what they are like in the flesh... Kes
I have a Hyundai I x35 top spec 4 wheel drive and I think its great value for money. It returns about 40 mpg and for a biggish car I'm satisfied with that. I have the personal impression that Kia and Hyundai share many parts and have very similar designs but Kia's seem to have very much poorer consumption figures - this may not be a problem for you - in which case- enjoy your new car !!! four-wheel-drive
People say about the ride of different cars/trucks I had a friend who hated Discos he said to me that he did not like the ride but he ended up buying one and loves it my advice to you would be go and have a test drive you may love it or hate it but the only way to find out is to try it I have never been in one but looking at them they look good to me. Wildfowler12
I've got a 2007 Sportage (2ltr Petrol). They come well kitted out for reasonable prices. Just make sure you take a decent test run and check the consumption as the economy figures are WAY off those that are advertised, Kia have been in trouble for this overseas. I had mine converted to run on gas, and I'm now enjoying cheap motoring (approx 13p/mile). I'll run it into the ground before I part with it

Oli
I cant remember how their different model specs go now but we basically got the 2 ltr diesel with all the bells and whistles in a manual. We didnt buy it though we leased through lingscars, if you're thinking of getting brand new its defo worth considering, probably not if you are getting nearly new and holding it for a long time. As for the car have got no complaints at all, all the gadgets work just fine, the satnav is good, i had actually heard some complaints about this but i think its better than our Mercs tbh, reversing camera, heated seats etc. all work well. MPG is ok considering its not a small car, i would guess we normally get + 40mpg, there is plenty of room in there as well. The longest trip we have done was down to the south of france, the back was fully loaded and i had a roof rack on with all my fishing gear and it ate up the miles just fine. No mechanical issues what so ever yet but weve only stuck on about 10k so wouldnt expect them tbh. Havent really tested its 4x4 credentials, looking at the tyres that come with it i reckon it would struggle with those however it was good in the recent snow/ice, i had to lay plasterboard on our drive just to get my other car to move but this one was fine. Price wise i think it stacks up well against the competition. All in all it suits our need just fine as a safe and reliable family car that can also double up as an occasional work horse. Ernest
Ok its not the Sportage, but I brought the Hyundai IX35 and really rate it. We got he premium 4x4 version so it has all the toys to play with and for a car in its class for that money it is well worth it. The mpg that they quote doesn't show in what we do but like Kes say's it returns about 40 ish on a run so can swallow that.
88b
Dec 11 we were looking at one for the wife, but only 2WD , out come was the Kia had terrible wind noise over 60 mph the Hyundai was a much nicer vehicle and better finished and they tend to have better suspension. The only problem with the IX35 is the lower dash is almost vertical instead of sloping in over the pedals, being 5'2" her legs hit the lower dash before the brake pedal. She ended up with an IX 20 which she loves. As for fuel consumption knock about 25% off the quoted figures.

ferguson_tom
Had a look round a Kia stand at the weekend at one of the local county shows, they seem to have really come on leaps and bounds in the last 2-3 years. I had a look in their new Optima and on the next stand was the new mazda 6, out of the two i would of gone for the Kia as the cabin really was a nice place to be. Havent driven any Kia so cant comment on that side of it. Also had a look at the new Sportage and the main thing i noticed was the boot didnt seem that big, boot floor is level with the back door but if you lift up the boot floor they have a huge well for the spare wheel which to me seems a bit of wasted space. A space saver and a deeper floor would of been better use of the space imho. Other than that it looked very nice inside again and i think is a very good looking motor on the road with all the bells and whistles. jonesbach
Three in my street...they all spend more time in the garage than on the road judging by the owners driving courtesy cars on a monthly basis!! Have a mate with ix35, liked it so much, he got his wife one too!! 1.7l diesel is better on juice with similar performance he says.
jackinbox99
Brother in law has an old one, i seem to recall the newer ones were much better reviewed by the press. He had the transfer box go on his, plus various electrical problems and one of the injectors went. He did say KIA were next to useless and didnt seem to even know what day of the week it was when he tried to speak to them about any of the problems he had. Apart from that, he likes it!
