Alan Maughan
How did it go then?
mrmints
Well, not great but not awful. I went to the farm and set up my rabbit and crow decoy and as I was sitting down, a crow came in perfectly and I thought it was going to be an excellent day...only three more appeared for the rest of the day and I missed the two I shot at. My crow calling is beyond pathetic, far to squeaky, not near enough sqwarky! I left with my tail between my legs after about 4 hours having fired in total 3 shots. I sent the farmer a message explaining that I'd not seen much in the field where he sent me, but if he'd like, I'd come back with a friend on the following weekend with air rifles and shoot out those around the farm yard, which we attempted, but the numbers weren't really there (nothing to do with inexperience there, my friend has been doing it for about 35 years!). The farmer didn't seem unhappy and I told him I'd give him a buzz in a couple of weeks, but if he had any problems to give me a ring in the mean time (to which nothing was said). I didn't do anything stupid, I didn't leave any mess and hopefully if I stick at it (and one day get a decent bag) he will allow me a bit more freedom. He doesn't seem to mind me bringing my mate either which is good, as he has much better knowledge of pest species and I learn a hell of a lot when I'm out with him. motty
Hi Mrmints. May i suggest that in between crow shoots you have a practise on clays. If it takes you 3 shots to bring down a crow, then maybe your marksmanship isn't up to scratch. Best of luck on your future expeditions. I think the first few trips out with the gun had an element of beginners luck. I'm now planning on spending my time on the pattern plate to get the gun fitted properly and on the clays. Onwards and upwards Chris! Indeed! I pressume that you can't get worse at this?!
