Radioactive pigeon

I currently work as a software developer and do some work for Nuclear power stations (can't say any more due to confidentiality) I believe they allegedly do cull the birds and allegedly remove the eggs from their nests in the local vicinity to try and keep the numbers down.

(I'm sure you understand why I use "allegedly"!! )

I served my apprenticeship at sellafield and its common knowledge that seagull and pigeons in the area are contaminated.Part of my job in the central workshops was to remove nests eggs/chicks and all from the roof to minimise the risk of stories like this getting out.During winter time seagulls used to swim in one of the outside fuel ponds because it was always warm with the heat generated from the magnox fuel rods cooling. This was a very radioactive area and workers were only allowed to work there for a few minutes at a time and then sent to the changerooms for the rest of the day.Who knows where them birds flew next and on who or what did they shake off ther radioactive cargo of contaminated water?
