Howa rifles

Thinking of getting a .308 mainly for target shooting anybody got any experience of them good or bad. Yes I know there are better rifles out there but for what use I will be giving it not worth spending vast amounts or having loads of mods done to a rifle to get it to do what you want. I am looking for a reasonable rifle reasonably cheap that is reasonable out of the box as such any info or comments, will be shooting out to about 600 yards

I shoot a Howa .243, 1500 stainless steel and it is spot on, pick the ammo to suit and you do your job and it will do its :good:

Lucky for me mine shoots well with PPU, 100g soft points(£12.00 for 20) and I reload Nosler 90g ballistic tips.

I have the !500 in .308. 24" heavy barrel, Axiom stock etc. it is very heavy but not too bothered about that as it is for target shooting. I have been using PPU 168 grain ammunition and it has proved to be very accurate. only had it a month so not had it out to long range yet but am going on a 600 m range later this month.

Can i hijack the thread for a second and ask what the triggers are like on the Howa's? Mainly the 1500 model?

Can they be adjusted to 2lb pull? Do they conbine a set trigger as standard. Or is it 2 stage job?

I'm thinking on the Howa 1500 or a Savage.........

I'm not sure about what my Howa breaks at, its certainly not heavy and it is adjustable but the Savage Axis is notoriously heavy with no adjustment hence its price, Timney now make a replacement for the Savage

My .308 is a bog standard Howa 1500 lightening (sporter), and it was excellent straight from the box.

No trigger mods required unlike my Remmy 700, and only adjusted the pull a tad.

I shot it in correctly and it has been used for everything from bunnies to reds, and with some target shooting out to 600yds, with no issues, although if I was specifically going for target work I would get a varmint barrelled version.
