Hi Matt

I watched them and found them interesting - thanks.

Separate note - the other 29 blades that you are scaling up - will these be numbered following the sale of 'no.1'? If so how will this be done?

Regards, L

No they won't be numbered its to much expense and hassle .

They are more a production knife than custom , I will know how many I have made up from my records.

Long winded process made to look easy by the photos/ video .

You would never believe the expense that goes into it .

That grinder cost me £2000 and was made to order .

It's a very very good machine , but I'd like a bigger one , something more aggressive on heavy stick removal .

Is that the one with a much more down turned handle ? I think I finished one of those for a deer stalker in Scotland , il try to get the photo bucket link for it , or if you can find it in there and link it ?

Il be honest it's very hard to price some knives (like that one for example) ,for production run because they use nonstandard handles so it cost a fortune in materials . Same for leather too .

To make volume you need to know its going to sell , not let the buyer down and not going to be a huge pain to make .

I wish I could make all my patterned knives , I tried a few designs before and had them laser cut but they just didn't sell and I had to let them go at cost , I'm not really willing to do that again my relationship and home is on the line this time I want to play it safe !!

Last year I did offer one to one courses so folks could come and make a knife from scratch , and one where you could forge your own Damascus from scratch , but no takers and the price I offered I would have lost money ..... Again .

A member on here who has become a great friend to us actually came and forged 2 unusual knives from files he might be along to tell you ( better than I could) what a eye opener it is and how much goes into it . Something like 3 days work long days to and I helped to speed up the end stages or it would have taken a lot longer .

He's never been back to do another knife never mentioned it either ha ha .

Although we do shot together most weekends !

Seen some lovely file knives , Look great when the makers leave abit of the original file pattern to the blade ,

Forging Damascus would be a awesome experiance .

The ones that caught my eye are in the second video 55 seconds in, 2nd and 3rd from the left

Thanks , it's one of the hardest jobs iv ever had , and iv had a few ..

The blanks you liked are on pages 6-7 on my mobile photo bucket account . The One I finnished has white corian handle and a flat sheath as a finnished knife .

They are the design that soaks up large amounts of leather and handle materials .

I know it's used every day by a deer management guy in the hills , the guy that bought it seems to love it '

I need a staff member or two if I was to make anything like that . I hate to think what it would cost. !

If I get an hour or so il do the other tutorials I have . One is forging a big knife from a farriers rasp , and I think there is Damascus forging from scratch .
