It's a good knife steel I prefere carbon steel to stainless o1 when heat treated correctly can get very sharp and be very tough and it's much easyier to heat treat than the other fancy steels that cost a fortune

Thanks guys , some say the original Bowie was a carving knife of sorts that's the magic of the Bowie nobody can prove what it was ment to look like there's plenty of interpretation

old trade knife style I made from o1 with etched blade and oak scales

That belt grinder really looks the business mate I'm looking foward to seeing your first blade come from it , with the plunge you want to try and graduate it into the ricassio and not have to much of a step as it can cause a weakness in the blade going from thick steel to thin to quickly ,

If you fancy a visit from the tink fairy then waters good , o1 is a oil hardening steel the o is for oil the warmer the oil the faster the quench will be, I aim for 75degrees

@ditchman when you say the throat of the blade do you mean the plunge? Not trying to teach to suck eggs an all that just curious ole pal

Looks like a solid bit of kit that , the contact wheels will come in very handy shaping your handles etc will it run horizontal or vertical ?
